Kalamazoo, MI Barbara passed away Friday morning, August 8, 2014 at the age of 83 with her family by her side. She was born on September 13, 1930 in Kalamazoo, MI, the daughter of the late Minor and Mae Van Daff Slater. She worked for many years at Tot to Teen Village, and was a lifelong member of North Park Reformed Church. Barb and Ed enjoyed their retirement years in Gulf Shores, AL and in Lakeland, FL. On June 28, 1951, she was united in marriage to her loving husband of 63 years Edward N. Stuut, who survives. Also surviving are sister Donna Jim Geiger of Kalamazoo; three children, Sandie Rooseboom of Plainwell, Bob Linda Stuut of Kalamazoo, and Nancy Mark DeShong of Portage; seven grandchildren, Chris Rooseboom Kathy Jager of Nashville, TN, Tim Jen Rooseboom of Eugene, OR, Jessica Rooseboom Andy Kelsey of Plainwell, Andrea Stuut of Kalamazoo, Alison Bill Freas of Hudsonville, Christy DeShong of
Kalamazoo, and Andrew DeShong Megann Larson of Portage; and seven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by grandson Michael Stuut. Barbara will be remembered for her joy, kindness, and optimism. She will be greatly missed by all those who knew and loved her. Friends may visit with the family from 5-7pm on Monday, August 11 at North Park Reformed Church, 1316 Barney Rd., where a memorial service will be held at 11 AM on Tuesday, August 12, 2014, Rev. Paul Fazio officiating. There will be a luncheon following the service. A private interment will be in Ft. Custer National Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to Smile Train. The family wishes to thank the staff at Borgess ER for their care and compassion.
