Advilda passed away at her home on Thursday morning, November 15, 2018 at the age of 88. She was born in San Juan, Puerto Rico on April 18, 1930 a daughter of the late Juan and Delores (Papillo) Carrio. Advilda worked for many years as a medical technologist at Borgess Hospital before retiring. In 1954, Advilda married Yavuz "Chuck" M. Cakmakci who preceded her in death in 2001. Advilda is survived by five children, Yasemin (John) Ryder of Portage, MI, Lisa (Rocky) Manuel of Houston, TX, John (Nancy) Cakmakci of Schoolcraft, MI, Marissa Cakmakci of Boca Raton, FL, and Chuck (Jill) Cakmakci of St. Petersburg, FL; ten grandchildren, Ben (Camillia Nader) Ryder, Elizabeth (Dan) Smith, Sam (Paula) Ryder, Ian Ryder, Robert Manuel, Patricia (Zachary) Pettigrew, Marissa (Edward) Walsh, Jon Cakmakci, Nicholas Cakmakci and Tatum Cakmakci; five great-grandchildren, Vivienne Ryder, Cash Pettigrew, Reese Pettigrew, Piper Walsh and Palmer Walsh; two sisters, Enna Azuela and Nydia Carrio; and several nieces and nephews. Cremation has taken place. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 1:00 pm Friday, November 30, 2018, at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Msgr. Michael Hazard presider. Interment will immediately follow Mass at Portage South Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please make memorials to SPCA of Kalamazoo or the Wounded Warrior Project.
