VANBUREN, Ada "Irene" Huff Kalamazoo
Passed away December 11, 2013 at Rose Arbor Hospice Care Residence. Irene was born November 3, 1927, in Franklin, Ohio, the daughter of the late Henry C. and Nancy E. Alcorn Huff. She grew up in Battle Creek and attended Battle Creek Public Schools, graduating in 1945 from Battle Creek Central High School. She worked at Percy Jones Army Hospital during World War II, and has lived in Richland Township since 1950. On May 17, 1947, she was united in marriage to Martin C. VanBuren, who survives. Irene liked music and reading. She did secretarial work at various companies and was a trainmaster' s clerk on the Penn Central Railroad. She also was a homemaker, and particularly enjoyed her children and grandchildren. Irene attended the Kalamazoo Free Methodist Church for many years. Survivors include a daughter, Linda David Spearman of Augusta; a son, Michael Dianna VanBuren of Kalamazoo; three grandchildren, Anna Rick Girgenti of Harriman, New York, Rebekah Caleb Knowles of Kalamazoo and Nathaniel Marianna VanBuren of Wayland; one great-granddaughter, Talia Girgenti of Harriman, New York; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her mother and father. The family will receive friends from 2:00 - 4:00 & 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. on Monday, December 16, 2013 at Langeland Family Funeral Home, Memorial Chapel, 622 South Burdick St. in Kalamazoo, where the funeral service will be held on Tuesday, December 17, 2013 at 11:00 a.m., with Pastor Bruce Rhodes and Pastor Craig Watson officiating. Interment will be at Prairie Home Cemetery in Richland. Memorial contributions may be made to the Kalamazoo Free Methodist Church, Hospice Care of Southwest Michigan or the American Cancer Society.
