After four exhausting weeks in the hospital, my father was sent home being told "there is nothing else we can do". After a couple days discussion, dad opted to enter home hospice care. From the beginning Centrica was amazing but having Gary assigned as dad's nurse was truly a godsend. After weeks of agonizing pain and multiple doctors and nurses not hearing what my dad was going through, Gary did. Gary heard. Gary listened. Gary acted. He was quick to communicate with the caseworker and brainstormed multiple options for the "level 12" pain dad was experiencing. Gary was patient with a stubborn man who declined a catheter and hospital bed. When dad said "not going to happen" Gary smiled and said "maybe later". (Dad did eventually give in to both and was thankful to have those options.) Gary answered every question and provided guidance as mom and I navigated transitioning dad to heaven. Just a few short days after dad passed, we received a very sweet and thoughtful call - Gary, just checking in and thanking us for allowing him to care for dad. Losing a loved one is never easy and I've never experienced such deep sorrow and grief as I feel with the death of my dad. But having sweet moments at home with him in the weeks leading up to his passing were made possible by the understanding of a single nurse. One person who made all the difference. Our paths will likely never cross again, but I want him to know how grateful and thankful we are that they did in September 2024.
