Dante Vincenzo Latora

The tight-knit community of Portage, Michigan has lost a beloved member. Dante Vincenzo Latora, 17, died March 23, 2017, a result of injuries sustained in a car accident. Dante was born August 9, 1999 in Middletown, Ohio, the son of Anthony (Tony) and Kim (Justus) Latora. He was well loved and respected by his family and friends. A senior at Portage Central High School, he was an exceptionally gifted student, excelling academically and on the national wrestling level. He was a kid that had a zest for life, which shown through in his artistry and his friends. Anyone who knows wrestling knows the legacy he represented so well and to the highest level. He also loved sharks and hanging with his peeps. Everything Dante did, he did for his passion and the fun in it, and there was nothing like watching him have fun expressing the many talents he had.

Dante is survived by his loving parents, Kim and Tony of Portage and his older brothers Angelo of Ann Arbor and Dominic of Portage. He also leaves behind his maternal grandparents, Diane and Jim Schelb, of Galesburg; his paternal grandparents Carl and Dian Latora of Mattawan and Margaret Latora of Portage; great gramma J (Dorothy Justus), of Kalamazoo; his uncles Andy Latora of Peoria, IL, Joe (Ruth) Latora of Myrtle Beach, Brian Justus and Adam Justus, both of Galesburg; cousins Samantha Baker, Mallorie and Gianni Latora, Alyssa and Vincent Latora, Brendan and Deagan Justus and Cameron and Gabriel Justus, several extended family and many close friends from school and throughout the area wrestling programs. He was preceded in death by his grandfather George Justus.

Visitation will be at St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church, 1150 W. Centre Avenue, Portage, MI 49024 on Tuesday, March 28th, from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Funeral Mass will be on Wednesday, March 29th at 12 p.m. with visitation from 11 a.m. - 12 p.m. In lieu of flowers, a scholarship fund is being established in Dante's name.
